Hi there.

I am an LT500 owner, wondering what the fastest stock ATV ever made is, are the new 450 - 700 four strokes faster on the straight, lets say on a 100 meter dash, than for example the LT500īs? Not alot of bikes out here where I live, but some are starting to appear of the later models. Also once I saw a chart on line somewhere, stating power to weight ratio on alot of ATVīs, with the LT500 on top of the list, do you know where that list can be found?

Fair enough, I wish to beleive so, but I am just curious to see if the other bikes have really been tested as such against the Zilla in a magazine or somewhere on equal grounds against the newcomers? that would be an idea for the mags to do a shootout. My 87' LT has been in the progress of restoration since I bought it, so I have not experienced the power of it first hand, but am really looking forward to it! as i say it would be fun to see it statistically, but not as arguments or proud statements over which really is the fastest stock quad. Me having one is a dream come true since i first saw it sitting on my Mojave 19 years ago[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

heres how it went down in 1988, in a dragstrip, JULY issue of 3&4Wheel Action (before mags turned into useless, hyped rags):

LT500: 79+ MPH
Banshee: 77mph

In 2001:
Raptor self crowned itself the new king at 75-76mph, but YAMAHA said (between a banshee and raptor) that "it depends on who got a better start" that determined who won.

BRP also said the DS650 was the fastest quad out... but all records point to the same 75-77mph range.

2004:
Dirtwheels clocked the new 450s from honda and yamaha at 78+ mph stock(not in the original shootout, but a different issue). I dont think they were correct b/c they contradict themselves and state in future issues that the yfz does 74 and the 450r does 75. 450r will not do 80 stock. i have one.

however, either way, 74/75 is pretty impressive from a 450cc 4-stroke. not to mention they accelerate very well. with mods you will be in the 80 realm.

Conclusion:
the LT500 is the fastest ever from the factory. The banshee/raptor/ds fights it out for second fastest, with the 450s nipping. Some say a banshee isnt that fast nor can go that fast but we've had several of them and all stock they will do that.

OEM ATV Consent decree ruling back around late 80's limited quads to '75mph.' However, the wind, rider, conditions may have you going faster or slower.

i agree about the mag shootout but one mag said that they could compare newer atvs to an older one b/c it "wouldnt be fair"...to who? the old bikes or the new ones? b/c im telling you, a 450r still does not handle as good as a 250R, imo.

 

I agree with Twenty... the zilla was the fastest stock quad ever made... with the banshee right behind... not to far behind....but still behind..... and then the DS650 would be right there as well but the downfall was that they are really heavy....

considering the power to weight ratio here the 250r has to be mentioned as well in my book....

what's even more alarming is that 2 of the 4 here are not even produced anylonger with the banshee soon to be obsolete. as well...

lol... uhh... it is proven the stock zilla will do over your claim of 75mph.

 

a stock zilla is the fastest atv ever produced,can do a stretch of top speed of 81 mph.

 

lol none will do over 75? i had my ds all stock at 79 on gps, it was downhill. and now i havent clocked it yet, but my friends predator will keep right on me neck and neck so predators are just as fast as DS's. and yes the zilla is the fastest stock atv ever produced, pushin right around 50 hp out of the box.
