Scrambler 500 gushing gas from carb
While at my sisters house I had the chance to ride my sisters quad if I could get it running. Just before it wouldn't start it started gushing gas out. Well, some starter fluid got it going and then I noticed it really did gush gas out. From the bottom bowl area it appears to be coming from. There is the fuel release screw and I did check there and it doesn't appear to be coming from there. Any ideas? I'm not a carb guy and hate working on them. Anybody have a spare carb that will work on a 98 Scrammy 500? Unfortunately I didn't get to ride it but I'm going back next month and would like to be able to fix it for her. Thanks for any help.

Your problem is with the float needle and seat.
You most likely have a piece of dirt or something in there or you could need a new needle and seat. Either way it is no problem to fix and it sure beats buying another carb.
And lay off the starter fluid. You can ruin an engine with it.

there may be something stuck in that area,,,causing your flaot valve to stick open

I have a scrambler 400 2x4 with the same problem. It leaks out of the overflow tube on the bottom of the carb. I have replaced the needle and seat, cleaned the carb inside and out (numberous times), tested the floats the see if they were taking in gas, made sure the floats float and slide, checked my reed pedals. All while the quad runs like a bat out of hell. I am completely lost. I am not sure if the vent tube is cracked (the one inside the bowl).

My 99 500 scrammy 4x4 did the same thing. The needle seat is held into the carb body by an o-ring. Yes an o-ring. Not pressed into the body or screwed into the body, an o-ring. My o-ring dried up and the seat dropped down just enough to flood and run crappy at idle and ok at speed. We were at coalcreek when this happened. Lucky for me we had an o-ring chain and the o-rings were the correct size to hold the seat in position. Pull the carb and drop the bowl and take a look. Fairly easy fix. Poor design.
