Default Polaris scrambler 2 stroke or 4 stroke

hey i was just wondering everyone says that the 2 strokes were better but we all know the scramblers went to four strokes. Is the fourstrokes worth it or should we go get a old 2 stroke how are they holding up and what is the speed on the 4 strokes and what are the advantages

You can build the crap out of the 400 and nothing can touch it. The 500 is very reliable with lots of torque. It all depends on what you want to do with it. If your going to race/drag then the 400 all the way. If you want a great trail bike then a stock 400 or 500 is great. Most prefere the 400 because they can be built easily. Both have about the same top speed of around 65mph but the 400 will get there quicker. The 400 is also lighter.

What do mean by " better than the 2 stroke". In what category are you reffering to. The 4 has some better qualities than the 2 and vice/versa. What are you wanting out of it?

If you want power and a good trail machine and do some snow plowing then I would say the 2 stroke. They make great power with just a pipe and clutch kit. I've got a Race Mod and I can run with everyone and outrun most. They make 70+ horsepower with the Race Mod. Good luck on your purchase. The 500 and 400 are both excellent choices. I don't think you would regret either one.

You can find them used and in good shape all over the place. If you don't mind buying on ebay they usually have some good deals there. You can also go to a Polaris dealer and see if they still have some 2003 Trailblazer 400's left anywhere. I know of people that have bought a brand new 03 a year or two later and got them for really cheap.

Weakback you are close to me. I live about 20min from the susq river. I live in Quarryville. As for the best all around atv the Scrambler 500 is hands down the best. If you go with the 400 then get one that is about 2-3yrs old. Most of them you can trust. As for any used atv it may need some minor work like steering bushings, tie rod ends, tires, and just an overall lookin over. I dont think I have ever heard of anyone not likeing the 500. It is a solid atv with plenty of power and you can tune the clutch to make it run even better. The 500 is one of the most reliable motors that Polaris makes.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

I have one of each and they are both great machines for differant things. The 400 is best at higher speeds, open spaces and on a track. The 500 is my main ride it is good at tight trails and woods riding, easy cruising on roads along with fast rides. My main thing that I dont like on my 400 is before I found the perfect pipe-clutch combofor me is that it had to be clutched so high to get into the power where the 500 the power is mostly low to mid range power and you dont need to have a high engament. If you are going to plow any at all I would go with the 500.It is also less to maintane than the 400 but again the 400 is an awsome powerplant that can be modded to be the fastest thing out there. It all boils down to how much you want to spend in mods the 500 doesnt need much from the factory other than tuning the clutch on the other hand the 400 get addictive on mods the more you do the more you want and it never seems to end. Find you a couple guys that have each and try to ride them to compare is the best thing to do.
