Default 2004.5 SP700 EFI ... Losing Coolant?

I've ridden my quad for about 80 miles total, mostly in cold weather and never noticed any overheating. BUT, Last weekend, I moved my quad out of the garage to clean up the place, and there was a puddle of Antifreeze about the size of a dollar bill where the quad was. I dropped the quad off yesterday at the dealer, for the Glacier plow install, and he said he'll take care of it for me, but I'm puzzled! The radiator is bone dry, and I can't find out where the leak was. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, did the overtemp light ever come on? I'm hoping I didn't do any long term damage to the motor, but as I said, it's run as strong now as it did when new, and thankfully, I've been riding in short six and seven minute hops around the property since the weather got cold. I did notice that the fan was running longer before shut off, but never thought I'd have a coolant leak on a brand new quad!

I guess I'll have to be more vigelant on checking the coolant level before riding, but as I stated above, didn't think it would be an issues for a trail rider that doesn't blaze new trailes. BTW, seems like a Pian in the buttocks to put fluid in this thing, do you have to take all of the plastic off to do any maintenance on it??????

I've got the '05 model, but no problems with leaks. How do you know the radiator is 'bone dry'?

I was able to squeeze both of the radiator hoses with little to no resistance, and the coolant resiviour (sp) is completely empty. Outside of this issue, and having to spray WD-40 on the contacts of my speedo everytime I pressure wash the bike, it's great.

The only place I have seen the 600/700s leak from is the waterpump cover and the mechanical seal in the waterpump. But this was mostly on the '02s and a few '03s. If you let the coolant level get too low it is a pain to get to the radiator cap. But, if you keep an eye on the coolant resevoir and don't let it get too low you can fill from there.

I too had a coolant leak. I went riding, washed my quad then parked it in the shed. I was checking out the suspension and looking over the cv's the next day when I noticed a small puddle under the engine area. it was coming from a coolant hose on the engine, I tightened the clamp and dried off the hose and rechecked the next day. no leaks after tightening the hose clamp.

My 2004 600 is also losing coolant somewhere but it seems to be only when it warms up and never leaves any puddles. I drained the oil today to see if it was leaking into the base but I don't see any evidence of antifreeze. Does anyone know how to tell if it is burning antifreeze?

You can send your oil off for analysis at certain companies and they can tell you if there is coolant present (costs about $20). Also, there is a test that can be done to your coolant that looks for combustion by-products in it. Depending on how severe the leak is you might see deposits on your sparkplug or your sparkplug might be super clean because it's getting steam cleaned by incoming coolant. Sometimes you can smell your oil and tell if it has coolant in it.

Read on another Polaris forum today, where many 700 owners had a leak from a hose on the water pump. Everyone reported that the problem was solved by tightening the hose clamp.
Good luck.

Thanks for the updates. I feel better that I'm not the only one with a minor issue. I should know on Saturday when I pick up the quad. My dealer is really decent, so I'm sure he'll take care of me. Now if we could just get some snow to test that V-plow!

Well, the dealer called, and sure enough, a hose clamp was loose. I'm glad the dealer found the problem, and logged it as a warranty claim. Hopefully I didn't do any damage to the motor, but if I did, Polaris should stand behind it, as the quad leaked from the factory apparently. I know from now on, I'll check for green in that little coolant Reservoir prior to riding it.

Thanks for all the help!
