Default '03 AC 250 Oil Change - I need some direction!

Hey guys I am a first timer here on this forum. I recently purchased three new Arctic Cat ATVs at an auction and I need some instruction on how to care for them. My 500 and DVX need some minor work before they are rideable but my 250 is like new. I'm a fanatic for keeping my engines in excellent condition. I'm sure the oil needs changed in all these machines so I hope you guys can help me out.

Ok here goes. If anyone can give me a couple of simple steps to change the oil on an '03 250 2x4 I would appreciate it. I'm thinking of getting a K&N oil filter and using Valvoline ATV 4 Stroke 10W40 Oil. Is this a good setup? Where is the drain plug located on the engine? Dipstick? What is the oil capacity? THANKS!

first off, welcome to the site! There are two drain plugs located under the engine and tranny. Remove those and the three small screws on the right side of the trans (by the oil window) to remove the cover that exposes the oil filter. There is no dipstick on this model, just the sight window. You will see two hash marks next to this window where the oil level should be. If you use oil other than arctic cat, make sure it's a motorcycle oil or stuff that suitable for a wet clutch. Oil capacity is 4.1 qt.

If you are going to do the regular maintenance or repairs or mods on your machine, it is worth the money to get a service manual. Either from a dealer or off E-bay and either the cd or a real book will work just fine.
