Default Predator 50 twist throttle conversion "Help"

My daughter can only ride about ten minutes before her thumb is to sore.

I've read on here of people doing twist throttle conversions but am having trouble finding a throttle to use.

The stock bars are tapered down to 3/4 diameter. The aftermarket throttle assemblies I am finding are 7/8. I see some are swapping the bars to a 7/8 like a kx60 style, but I would like to locate a twist assembly for the 3/4.

My main reason for staying with the 3/4 is that it will provide much better throttle control with the small carb on the 50. A 7/8 assembly will "full pull" the carb in a very short distance. I'd like her to be able to ease into it as much as possible.

Does anyone know of a minibike using a 3/4 bar? I would think an oem setup may even come with a limeter screw for my youngest.

.

As a suggestion, try contacting: http://www.hetrickracing.com/products.htm

Personally, I would NOT install a twist throttle on a mini. When using a twist throttle, the body is in a different posture. Thus, the young rider looses control. I know 3 mini-quad racers who have removed their previous twist throttles - after their kids crahsed 3 different times.

To reduce throttle fatigue, you may want to consider removing your Pred-50's oil injection system, going pre-mix at 32:1 (tweak it from there), and using a single throttle cable. We went premix (with single throttle cable) on our Pred-90 and immediately, the tension on our Pred-90 was reduced by 50%. Today, my son now keeps his eyes on the trail, instead of down at his sore thumb. Or, trying to reposition his hand / thumb all the time. Glad we went pre-mix on our mini. Should have removed its oil injection system on day one.

Hope this helps...

50 % reduction huh.

That might be the answer. What was involved to disabble th injection? Just disconnect the cable or is there a bit more to it?

You recommend 32:1 on the pre mix. That seems rich. I am already having plug fouling problems. Would 50:1 be dangerously lean?

Thanks

1) Twist throttles are dangerous. I consider this the biggest mistake I ever made.
2) You mix the oil the way it is intended ie: amsoil is made for 50:1, most are not. 32:1 was good advice for most oils.
3) A LT80 throttle cable will replace the current cable that operates the slide and the oil inj.(approx 12 bux)

Do your self a favor like Spike said and do away with the oil injection and switch to a single throttle cable. we did this on my boys Polaris 90, what a diff. You solve 2 problems at once, We are running Klotz oil at 32:1 with Sunoco 104 octane race gas and a single cable i ordered direct from Terry Cable . Braided cover about 30 bucks. No i know its getting oil and the throttle is alot easier on Tylers thumb when he races.

Mud_Runner,

To remove your oil injection system, check the instructions I just sent you via PM. The secret in reducing "thumb control" tension is installing a single throttle cable.

Start with 32:1 premix, stay with the same brand of oil and tweak the oil ratio until the plug becomes a beer bottle brown. As mentioned in many posts, oil ratios are different depending upon its brand and your unique riding conditions. 32:1 is a good start...

Hope this helps...

I bought a plastic extension for my sons mini. It gives him more leverage, and puts the thumb in a more favorable position. I threw out the packaging, but I'll check the store I bought it from and re-post in a few days.
