HI, im looking into buying a dirt bike. i found one for $750. it is a 1987 honda cr125. he said he has 4 hours on the rebuild. i know they are racing bikes so they go alot faster. Im just wondering if im goning to use it for trail rideing how long the top end will last before i have to put a new piston and rings in it?? Is this a good bike for what i want? I will go fast sometimes but not all the time. IS a 100cc dirtbike to small for me?? im 5'5 and 135lbs. Also the bike comes with a chest protector,googles,gloves,boots,and a jersy. it also comes with half of a spare motor. Is this a good price for the age and what it comes with?? thanks

um..... thats a preaty good deal if ya ask me. if you dont beat the dirtbike, u should get by with rebuildin it once a year. or maybe once every other year. my friend has a kx125, and we rebuild that everyother day cuz of us really givvin her.. my other friend had a kx100 with alot of stuff done to it, and we all outgrew it fast and got bored with it, so he went with a yz250f. i woud say go for the cr125, should last ya a lil while, and u probly wont outgrow that for a while.

a 125 will usually last between 20-50 hours depending on how you ride it. those small bore 2 stroker mx bikes are kinda short lived. for trail riding you would probably be happier on a 4 stroke or a bigger bore 2 stroke. if i were trail riding a lot id get a xr 400.

 

I Rebuild mine every winter I ride between 50-65 hours a year ( Track/Trail ) . The hours vary depending on how you ride, riding conditions and how you service the bike. I have heard of people going 100+ hours between rebuilds with no problems.

 

100+ hours right here. RM is still well well over and compression limit, factoring the service limit, + the shaved head adds about 30lbs, it runs strong starts first kick and eats yz450s for breakfast.

i would def. go with the cr... i would just be perpared to rebuild it every year.... iam not sasyin that u will have to cuz a couple of friends (96"cr125,99"rm125,89"kx125) they ride everyweekend they could which wold be atleast 30 weekends and we ride like all day and they rebuild about everyohter year i also have a friend with a 90"yz250 and he hasnt been out ridein with us and mechanic sed about 3 weeks he rebuild atleast once a year u do wut u thing is best but i would def. go wit the cr

 

The problem with running an MX bike in the trail is the slow riding gums up the engine and makes the top end wear faster. With a CR type bike you should run it high RPM's all the time and it will last longer. Get a good 4 stroke for a trail bike..like an XR.
