We are removing the rear axle on my 97' 300 EX and can't figure out how to remove the clip that holds down the nut on the very end of the rear right axle. Does anyone know how to remove this clip without tearing the axle all to heck?? Please help so we can get the bearings switched out and I can go riding on Sunday!!! i'll take a look at my friends 300 ex, but im pretty sure its a circlip and you'll either need a pair of snap ring pliers, or a very fine tipped set of needle nose pliers.

 

We've tried both and the darn thing still won't snap or come out. So what do you think now, call the Honda Dealer?

 

if you are talking about the little ring under the locknut the you should take one screwdriver to pry it out a little then another small one to stick up under it and pop it out of the groove.The only other ring i can think up is the snap ring,for that all you need is some snap ring pliers.

Um ..... Did you loosen the nut up all the way and tap it out of the way of the ring? If you need another nut I have a used one.
