I just used ordinary rectangular 1/8" wall steel tubing. I extended the main frame out a ways with a pair of 1' x 2" arms, added some diagonal bracing, and welded a plate on that to mount the winch.
I'm not an expert welder. I can do OK on horizontal welds, so to weld all the way around I removed the gas tank, drained the carburetor, took off the plastic and flipped the quad upside down or on its side as required so that the place I needed to weld was horizontal. I did not take out the battery which was a mistake. It drips acid when upside down which makes a mess. A little oil drips too, but that's easier to clean up. Also be sure to disconnect any electronics modules containing semiconductors like the CDI and regulator before welding.
I can take pictures if you want, but it will have to wait for the weekend. It's dark when I get home from work, and I'm not a morning person .
